Yayasan Sultan's Scholar Student Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Receives Oxford Prestigious Award - The House of Bolkiah

The Sultan's Scholar Scholarship Scheme of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the human capacity development programmes to produce a knowledgeable generation in line with the goals of Brunei Vision 2035 which is to produce educated, highly skilled and successful people to achieve a high quality of life.

This prestigious scholarship was personally awarded by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to students who excel in academics and extracurricular activities to further their studies in various fields at prestigious institutions of higher learning abroad. In addition, they also need to pass several intensive exam and interview sessions. These people are intended to be the next generation who will line up excellent leaders to contribute to the development of the ummah and the socio-economic progress of the nation and nation.

Awang Vance Tan Zong Hao is one of the recipients of the Sultan's Scholar scholarship from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah who is currently pursuing a doctorate (PhD) in Natural and Environmental Sciences at the School of Geography, St. Peter's College, University of Oxford. Awang Vance is preparing a paper explaining how future flood risks can be optimally managed by drafting policy changes and anticipatory actions on a national scale. He was mentored by the vice-president-elect of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Professor Jim W Hall FREng, who is internationally renowned for his research on risk analysis for infrastructure and water systems.

Awang Vance is a very smart and active student. He was appointed as the first Director of Analytics, Technology and Algorithms at Oxford University Rugby Club (OURFC) and also served as editor-in-chief for research journals at his college.

Recently, Awang Vance received the prestigious Impact Award from the Oxford University Students' Association (Oxford SU) for his commitment to the University of Oxford community, his St Edmund Hall college and Oxford University Rugby Club (OURFC). The Impact Award is awarded annually to individuals who have made a meaningful difference to the field of sport, club or society.
