Generating Family Income Through Crops - The House of Bolkiah

Spicecries

Nombor: 880 9890

Towards achieving one of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah's strategic goals, which is to support the achievement of self-sufficiency, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah also supports the government's initiative to improve the level of self-sufficiency of those in need of assistance through the Welfare Financing Scheme (SPK). It is the hope of a country to have people who are diligent and willing to 'bakarih' and 'bajarih' without giving up so that 'balurih' generates the economy of themselves, their families and also the country.

Through SPK, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah provides special assistance for the target group in need, namely the provision of capital assistance to run an enterprise along with several appropriate skills programmes and courses. The form of capital assistance provided is according to the criteria and suitability of the applicant such as finances, materials, training and monitoring. This is to ensure that entrepreneurs under SPK can run their enterprises and businesses more orderly and perfectly.

As the Malay saying goes, 'where there is a will, there is a way', that is the holding that is always embedded in the heart of one of the recipients of SPK assistance, Awang Mohamad Jasni bin Haji Imran in working on agriculture based on vegetable crops. He started actively cultivating crops as a source of family income for the past 10 years on a private land site in the Kampung Junjungan area. The field of gardening is not something new for Awang Mohamad Jasni and since he was young he has helped his father to work on this field.

The fighting spirit of this entrepreneur began to flare up after being selected to receive SPK assistance in mid-2019. "Alhamdulillah, with the assistance of SPK such as lawn mowers and water pumps as well as the need for plant fertilizers, it has helped a lot to increase my crop production. The Foundation's concern which has not only provided capital assistance but guidance and monitoring has sparked change and development thus educating me to be more independent".

Awang Mohamad Jasni's fighting spirit is getting stronger after he was selected to participate in an agricultural programme through the Department of Agriculture with the preparation of a two-hectare land site in the Lampaki Agricultural Development Area (KKP), Kampung Mulaut which he has been working on until now. Currently, 45-year-old Awang Mohamad Jasni is actively cultivating and selling several types of vegetables including long beans, beans and coal peppers under his company, Spicecries Agrofarm. The sales from his crops are also very encouraging and can cover the family's expenses.

One of Awang Mohamad Jasni's achievements was when he became the second place recipient of the 13th Shell LiveWIRE Brunei Business Awards in Category 1 at the end of 2020.

Planning for the future and hoping for the future, Awang Mohamad Jasni intends to increase crop yields from time to time and be able to hire local workers in helping him develop the enterprise. Awang Mohamad Jasni also has a dream of opening a kiosk to house the sale of agricultural products with the concept of 'Eco-Friendly' one day.
